What is ECC Cyprus
The
European Consumer Centre of
Cyprus
provides information and advice to consumers about their rights should they
encounter problems when shopping within European Union.
One of the main aims
of the Centre is to provide amicable settlement of a complaint or dispute that
arises between a seller and a consumer. The Centre solely investigates
complaints submitted by consumers against sellers/ providers/ traders and does
not in particular investigate disputes arising from transactions between
enterprises.

Why was the European Consumer Centre (ECC) created
Initially ECC was created exclusively for providing information and support to the consumers in subjects that concern cross-border transactions. In time, the role of ECC was extended, and priority was given in providing practical information to the European consumers about all their areas of interest related to health, security and financial interests.
In cases where there is a difference or a complaint that results from cross-border transaction, ECC offers the consumer legal information and represents him or her in the country where the supplier of the defective product or service is established.

Fundamental objectives of ECC
According to the priorities as these are established in the policy of the consumer from the European Committee, the fundamental objective of ECC is to educate and inform the European consumers, so they can fully exploit the possibilities offered by the Internal Market, without putting in danger their health, safety and financial interests.
More specifically, the objectives of ECC are the following:
- It consults all consumers that face problems with their cross-border transactions and supports them in their claim of demands, proceeding in amicable settlements.
- It collaborates closely with other European Networks like SOLVIT and RAPEX as well as with the General Management of Health and Protection of Consumer (DG SANCO).
- It provides information on the Community and national legislation and case law.
- It proceeds with cross-border comparisons in subjects that concern the consumers like for example sale prices of basic consumer products etc.
- It supports cross-border purchases.
